My Name: Virginia Griffin-Monk
What Type Of Therapy Do You Practise: Humanistic , Integrative Counselling
I Specialise In:

I specialise in Generic counselling, for individual adults, Relationships, Abuse.

Many of my clients are young adults, early in their careers, often facing a new job, developing in confidence , exploring and defining their identity , finding themselves in a relationship. I have also had a large number of clients who are older, more settled in their careers who have experienced work -related stress or crisis in relationship, issues or loss . Some might be considering further self development or a new balance in their lives.

Integrative counselling inspires me because the client and I work together to create a creative space for us to explore the concerns. I notice in myself resonances and responses , using insights that arise in the moment, exploring the client’s concerns using mindful and creative approaches. I find the client’s developing self -understanding is deeply rewarding and motivating , and find the person often affirms this sense of developing awareness and finding themselves.

How Exactly Does Your Therapy Work?:

I work integratively, incorporating client-centred, interpretative and focussed approaches depending on what is appropriate. I endeavour to provide a warm, collaborative and non-judgemental space for you as a client to explore the issues that are important to you. As our relationship develops in therapy, we might use mindful approaches to gain a way of centring and developing self -acceptance . We might use expressive approaches to explore and understand aspects of the person’s experiences and concerns, recognising developmental issues and hopefully gaining insight and perspective.
I will seek to see you and understand you as a whole person, connected in mind, body, spirit and heart. Through this I hope to support you in accepting and understanding yourself as a whole person, with the power and freedom to make choices.

What kinds of symptoms have people who seek your services usually presenting with:

Most clients are presenting with concerns related to anxiety, stress and mild to moderate depression. The majority of people are seeking ways to support themselves in relation to trauma from childhood, problematic family or partner relationships . Work-related stress , bullying and physical conditions, some of which may be related to stressful experience are also frequently found, and link to experience of anxiety and depression. Some clients are trying to find a way to balance their lives, to find a way to feel more fulfilled. Clients may have concerns and uncertainties regarding their identity, are experiencing times of transition or dealing with loss and bereavement and re- evaluating where they are in their lives.

How might your therapy have helped them: Clients have said how they have gained a new perspective,or understanding and a growth in self -acceptance , as well as some practices that help them manage at times of stress , or when feeling overwhelmed. They say they felt heard and relieved to talk about themselves and their concerns and they became able to explore these in a less judgmental way,

When a client has completed all their therapy(s) with you, what do you hope to have changed for them, compared to when you first met them: I hope the client has gained a more open and compassionate way of viewing themselves, where automatic self -judgement is reduced ,softened, or queried. I hope they might have gained some “strategies” for times of stress, such as mindful approaches recognise self- limiting expectations or judgments , so that hey are able to give themselves more self- support , or seek it when needed.
