What Type Of Therapy Do You Practise: The Person-centred approach is the foundation of what I do, and I integrate aspects of gestalt and TA when the need arises.

I Specialise In:
I don’t have a ‘specialist’ area, though there is a running thread of low-self-esteem in a good section of my clientele. I work holistically. Meaning – I believe we are multidimensional beings so I don’t just focus on the mental and intellectual aspects of clients. They might come to be engulfed in grief or anger (for example) yet they are smiling. I will bring to their awareness about what they are doing physically.
How Exactly Does Your Therapy Work?:

My therapy works by bringing to the client’s awareness their pattern of behaviour or self- defeating beliefs (which usually are not theirs to carry and usually stem from previous generations). When people tell me their stories, I see colour, shape, form. I use a lot of symbols and metaphor in my work and will tell the client or draw out the pattern for them to see. it’s a bit like holding up a mirror to them and exploring what we see or sense. Working in the here and now, I encourage them to speak their truth and get curious about themselves. I also challenge their beliefs and encourage them to use their own (appropriate) grounded life-experiences as reference points to develop their own beliefs and values by which they can embrace rejected aspects of themselves, and align all aspects of their lives. I believe that with self-awareness, we make different (more conscious) choices. If they have shut down emotionally I sometimes use Gendlin’s Focusing process. If they are willing, I encourage them to paint or draw their emotions. With anxiety, I share grounding techniques and breathing exercises and explore their fears.

What kinds of symptoms have people who seek your services usually presenting with:

Unprocessed grief,
Relationship issues,
Low self-esteem,
Anxiety,
Depression,
Abuse (emotional, financial, sexual)

How might your therapy have helped them: A familiar phrase from clients in my sessions is “I never thought of it like that before”. They often speak of a “weight lifted” and that they feel “lighter”. I think I help them gain self-acceptance and either help them find their voice or strengthen their voice. I also have helped them develop their own individual wellbeing toolkit (in anxiety cases) or their own yardstick (in low self-esteem cases).

How Often Might A Client Typically Need To See You: New clients are weekly.
As they become more comfortable in their process of change, they see me fortnightly.
